Prof. Josef Hecken today chaired a plenary session as impartial chair of the G-BA for the last time. Since 2012, and thus for almost the entire period since the introduction of early benefit assessment, he has shaped the evidence-based assessment of new medicines in Germany. Mr. Hecken made sure that medical breakthroughs such as the cure of hepatitis C, as well as curative treatment approaches in oncology with CAR-T cell therapies, gene therapy and orphan drugs, reach patients in Germany at an early stage.
Sonja Optendrenk (CDU) will take over the chair of the G-BA seamlessly. Until the end of the month, she is still State Secretary at the Hessian Ministry of Family, Senior Citizens, Sports, Health and Care.
